Just browsing some cheap boats

Got bored tonight, so I thought I'd take a gander at the yachtworld.com listings.  I don't know if it's a need to feed my masochistic nature, or to just inspire me to keep going.   Well assume it's a character defect and it's the former, but really hope it's the later :)  As more of the people I talk to or follow on their blogs, get boats, or make plans to start heading south after hurricane season, I feel the pull more and more.

It's funny, I seem to notice things boat or water related more often now.  Songs with water, or sailing in the lyrics, or shows with boats in them perk my interest.   In the airport a week ago instead of picking up a Newsweek or some other magazine, I picked up Cruising World.  I paid a lot more attention to Hurricane Irene then I had any previous hurricane.  Tracking it's path, wind speed, what the sea surge was expected to be.  Checking to see if people I had read on the web were ok.

Almost like I feel a part of the sailing community already!  So here's just a few cheap boats I saw as I was looking through boats.

36' Concordia  $9900

THE BOAT WAS BUILT AT THE CONCORDIA IN MASS BY ALAN GURNEY.  ONE DESIGN MODEL KNOWN AS THE "CODDINGTON".  RECENT PRICE REDUCTION DUE TO THE SELLER HEALTH. DO NOT MISS OUT.

 34' Tartan    $9900

Vessel has had recent survey and deck issues were discovered. Classify as project. Hence the low price. Is savable.

This Classic Sparkman & Stephen designed sloop has had 1 owner and has always been used in Lake Erie FRESHWATER. Has sought after Volvo diesel engine and newer Dacron sails made by a renowned local sailmaker, David Bierig. Her Keel/centerboard makes her idea for cruising in coastal regions where you may encounter shallows.

34' Tartan          $8000

Best priced 34 Tartan on market.

 30' Catalina              $6900

This is a very basic Catalina 30 with a newer (2004) Yanmar 2 cylinder diesel engine. The boat has been sitting for several years and the keel bolts may need replacing at an estimated cost of $1,000.00 - $1,500.00

30' Catalina 1983      $10000

  1. Haha!! You and I have the same character defect for sure. I do own a boat and I spent a lot of time aboard her looking for a way to make the move permanent. I watch the same boats on yacht world along with a few other sites. eBay is also a fun place to search sailboats and it is a daily stop in my surfing to see if anything good has been put on at a price so low, I could make the move tomorrow. There are many affordable boats available and with the economy being down, I see more now than ever. Someone wondering if they might like sailing could get started pretty inexpensively and be flawed with the same character defect. Good Blog!!

  3. Like buying a car and then noticing it all over the road, the same goes with sailing! We now notice so many boating related things that we never did before.

As far as the sailboats ... we love our Catalina 30! Seems to be good prices if the boats are in good shape!

  5. Mid-Life, I know you guys like your Catalina. That's kind of why I threw both those 30's in there - you seemed to like yours a lot.

Doll (&Capt'n too) - yeah I thought the Tartan looked pretty nice too. Right now the name would be Can't Happen Soon Enough - hmm that may not fit on a boat :) I actually haven't given names much thought yet. Hey - shouldn't you guys have a boat by now? :)

  6. We are attempting to look at a boat in Kilmarnock this weekend...depends if owner available to show. We also have a couple to see when in Florida...then another in Deltaville on our return. I don't foresee us moving on one before or during winter...but stranger things have happened!!!

  7. Holy Crap!! Those are some amazing prices!!! You wouldn't find anything priced like that up here in Vancouver, BC. If there was, I'd be learning to sail tomorrow and on a boat in 6 months!!

  8. Sandy - how sad is it that they are cheap and I still can't pull the trigger. Although I may go ahead and do it, and just head south! Time for a fresh start - somewhere warmer :)
