Window Shoping

So what does somebody that wants to liveaboard, but doesn't have a boat yet do - why they go out and look at boats for sail on the internet and dream of course!   So here are some of the boats I picked out as I was looking.  Obviously I'll be having to do work on whatever boat I get due to my anticipated budget.   But I'm trying to keep it simple per the recommendations of some of you fine folks.

Grampian 34

Elysian is a rare 1973 Grampian 34 center-cockpit ketch. Solid comfortable cruising boat with lots of storage, easy handling, full aft cabin. Many recent upgrades, too many to list but include new electrical systems, sails, 2-anchor bow roller, and all-new LED lighting (cabin and tri-light). All new SS opening ports. New epoxy barrier coat. Thunder Bay, ON. $22,000 CND. http://elysian.ca

We will see after I've gotten some real sailing under my belt, and have read up some more, what types of choices I'll make as far as boats.   I'd really like a catamaran, but I don't think my budget is going to allow that.

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend!

  1. Greetings Mate!

I think we are at the same point in our lives... at least when it comes to our wants. You having a house, career, and other things are a little bit closer to your goals it would appear. I'm going to keep an eye on you and see how your story unfolds. Maybe, if we both get our boats, we'll meet up down the way!

Seriously, I find myself looking up ye yachts myself. Let me know how that class goes.

  2. hollywoodme - welcome to the journey! Yeah - the same point as far as where we want to go - not quite close on the age :) You may even beat me to the life. Sometimes being farther along in our lives means we are weighed down a little bit more! Anyways - good luck to you, and hopefully we both end up on boats, and I'll buy ya a drink at some tropical port somewhere!

  3. I'll hold you to it, mate. Age is pretty arbitrary if you ask me. It's all about life experiences and a semblance of maturity.

  5. We have a 1987 Catalina 30 and love her! We'd also like a catamaran but they are just too expensive for our budget. Best of luck on your search!

  6. Yeah - dang catamarans! :) But simpler, sooner I keep getting told. So money be damned! I have looked at some Catalina's (well, window-shopped). But I think what will happen is that when I'm ready to seriously shop, whatever "quality" boat I can get for a good deal will be the winner.

  7. I'm curious if you ever looked into any of these? Or were they just ideas as you were learning what you wanted?
